STEETON Male Voice Choir members sang twice in one day at the funerals of members Frank Place and Gordon Sugden.

Choir spokesman Eric Parker said it was a privilege for he and colleagues to perform in honour of Silsden man Frank and Ilkley man Gordon.

He said: “The choir’s respect of these men brought a record attendance of 54 choristers at each funeral.”

Musical director Alan Clark told members that their singing had been “nothing short of excellent”.

He added: “I know the families were extremely grateful for your attendance and your efforts, and feel sure that Gordon and Frank would have been very proud of you all.”

Both men had been members of Steeton Male Voice Choir for many years.

Frank, 87, had not been able to sing for the past couple of years due to illness, but had still attended concerts regularly.

Gordon, 84, was recovering from a spinal injury after a long period of recuperation at the Sheffield Northern General Spinal Injuries Hospital.
