A SERIES of walks in and around Silsden will be launched this weekend.

Rambler Allan Friswell has devised short circular walks using the many miles of public footpaths in the town.

Each Silsden Stroll is waymarked and maps will be available from several outlets, as well as on Facebook and a dedicated website.

Mr Friswell received £500 from Silsden Town Council towards the cost of the project, which has won the support of BBC TV presenter and former Ramblers president Julia Bradbury.

"I hope to give townspeople – those who've lived here for decades as well as off-cumdens – the confidence to explore their own paths and beautiful countryside which are their heritage," he said.

"The paths and views in the parish are a delight and will pleasantly surprise even those who do not regard themselves as outdoor types.

"Thanks in bringing the project this far are due to many people but especially to the landowners who – without exception – have shown helpfulness, support and friendliness."
