RESIDENTS, politicians and workers from local organisations and businesses joined together for the Keighley West Big Spring Clean.

Teams of volunteers took to streets, alleyways and wasteland with brushes, litter pickers and bags as part of the national Community Clear Up Day.

Bracken Bank teams, including pupils of Worth Valley Primary School, collected three van loads of rubbish while clearing the grounds of the Sue Belcher Centre.

Another team cleared an alleyway next to Hemsby Street, Ingrow, where fly tipping was highlighted in last week’s Keighley News, while a third cleared around the North Dean Road play area.

Residents on both estates provided free refreshments.

Community development worker Pip Gibson, who organised the clean-up, congratulated everyone who took part.

She said:“Thanks to their donation of time, effort, resources and commitment, Keighley West is now a tidier, cleaner, greener ward. Eyesores have become assets and new friendships have blossomed."

Keighley MP Kris Hopkins, who join the clean-up in Lund Park, said: “It is heartening how communities across the country have answered this call to arms to help liberate their local areas from the litter louts who have blighted them for so long.”
