A GROUP set up to safeguard and improve one of Keighley's largest public open spaces will hold its first fun day later this month.

The Friends of Burgess Field is staging the event at the location between 1pm and 4pm on May 24.

Cowling Harlequins Rugby Club and Highfield Bowling Club will also be involved with the afternoon, alongside Cubs, Scouts and officers from Bradford Council.

There will be a tug-of-war contest, a bouncy castle, a slide, fun run and refreshments.

Organisers will be laying on food and plant stalls, an ice cream van and other activities for people of all ages.

Friends chairman Barry Brewood said everyone is welcome to attend, adding that this should be the first of many community events to be held by the Friends group.
