COUNCILLORS have given protective status to the historic toilets in Cross Roads Park.
Keighley Area Committee last Thursday (June 25) approved the twin toilet blocks as an Asset of Community Value.
This means that if Bradford Council’s decides to put the toilets on the market at a future date, the sale will be delayed to give residents a chance to raise cash to buy them.
Haworth, Stanbury and Cross Roads Parish Council made the Asset of Community Value application to support the efforts of the Friends of Cross Roads Park.
The Friends currently run the toilets on a voluntary basis with permission from Bradford Council.
The facilities were among many across the district closed in recent months by the council as part stringent spending cuts.
The area committee, part of Bradford Council, were recommended to approve the application because the toilets met criteria in the government’s Localism Act.
