SUTTON Post Office is on the move.

The outlet is relocating 30 metres along Main Street from its current home to the Costcutter store.

Post Office Ltd said the move would bring many benefits for customers, including longer opening hours.

A six-week public consultation into the proposal was held in the spring.

Adrian Wales, the company's regional manager, said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to residents.

"We are confident this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, and will secure services for the future."

The new facility, which is launched at 1pm on September 10, will feature an open-plan combination counter with hearing loop provision and wheelchair access.

Post office services will be available throughout the store's opening hours, from 8am to 9pm weekdays and 8.30am to 9pm Saturdays and Sundays.

A full range of services will be on offer, including special delivery, home shopping returns, online banking, cash deposits and withdrawals, bill payments, travel money pre-orders and mobile phone top-ups.

The current branch will close at 12.30pm on September 9.
