A PATIO was turned into a rock stage after a neighbourhood barbecue turned into fundraising jamboree.

Local covers band Silhouette entertained the crowd of around 70 people at the garden party in Elm Tree Close, Long Lee.

The event, which started out as a friendly gathering for a few people, finally raised £600 for Manorlands thanks to donations and raffles.

Charlie Helliwell, his partner Jenny Gardner and neighbour Brian Harris wanted to organise a barbecue to help neighbours get to know each other.

Then Brian agreed to bring his band Silhouette, also known as The Misfits, whose musicians played in Keighley bands during the 1960s.

Brian said: “it was a big success and turned out far better than we imagined.”

Charlie and Brian provided the drinks and Jenny donated the food, and although admission was free the trio asked for donations. Every penny given went to Manorlands.

Charlie said: “I would like to say thank you to all the people that turned up and a big thank you for all my friends who put it together.”
