A STEETON company has helped transform a family's lives.

Tracey Higginbottom and her 11-year-old daughter Charlotte both suffer from a crippling condition and were struggling to get around their home.

But after hearing of their plight via Twitter, Acorn Stairlifts installed a stairlift for free in their three-storey townhouse.

"We were sorry that Tracey and Charlotte felt so restricted in their home and were delighted to help," said company secretary Dave Belmont.

"A simple tweet changed everything for the family and although we can't donate a lift for every enquiry we receive, we were happy we made such a difference for them."

Former nurse Tracey, 37, and Charlotte both suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which restricts movement and causes chronic fatigue.

They were only able to use a third of their home, in Barnsley.

Charlotte had to be carried to bed by her dad John every night and Tracey hadn't been able to sit out in the back garden for three years.

"Words cannot express how this donation has transformed all our lives," said Mr Higginbottom.

"As soon as we heard the news about the stairlift we cleared out a room on the bottom floor and painted it bright pink and laid a pink carpet so Charlotte now has her own princess palace!

"The whole family feels like it has had a lift."
