A KEIGHLEY councillor has branched out to help residents plagued by overhanging trees.

Adrian Farley arranged for action following complaints of overgrown trees on the site of the former Brontë Middle School in Oakworth Road and Bankfield Walk in Braithwaite.

Cllr Farley, who represents Keighley West Ward on Bradford Council, said trees along the perimeter of the former school site had caused a nuisance for residents over the past year.

He said: “It seems a blanket Tree Preservation Order is in force and the tree officer refused to allow the trees to be trimmed.

“The council has however allowed the trees to be removed completely. Residents are pleased about this.”

Cllr Farley said pensioners in bungalows at Bankfield Walk were losing their light due to overhanging trees, and there were also weeds growing between the pavements.

He has arranged for a Community Payback team to remove the weeds, and the trees will be cut in the near future.
