MORMONS from Keighley rolled up their sleeves to help clean up overgrown parts of Utley Cemetery.

The 30 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congregation in Cross Roads lent their support to the Friends of Utley Cemetery.

Volunteers aged from four to 70, including an Australian and an American, cleared huge piles of branches, leaves and overgrowth from the sides of graves.

James Stewart, leader of the church in the Keighley area, said the cemetery is a precious resource that needed protecting.

He added: “We will definitely be going back to help again. When we all work together, we can achieve great things!”

Christine Dobson, a member of the Friends group, described the event as "brilliant", and thanked everyone who pitched in.

She added: “Everyone worked tirelessly and it was a wonderful feeling to see progress being made.”

The Friends have applied applied for a Save the Communities police grant to support its work.

Anyone else able to help should contact Christine on 07919 505804.
