MEMBERS of Keighley’s new cheerleading team showcased their talents recently in the Airedale shopping centre.

Youngsters from Team X-Treme perform for shoppers and offer taster sessions to interested passers-by.

Team X-Treme is run by 16-year-old Keighley girl Sian Reid, who cheered in the Rugby World Cup and is now the cheerleading coach for Keighley Cougars.

She set up her team up in September following a successful summer school that attracted dozens of children from across the town.

This team has now been adopted by the Cougars rugby league team, which lets Sian run Team X-Treme sessions three times a week at Cougar Park.

Craven College student Sian also takes her to leaders to Bradford Open Gym for fortnightly sessions with specialised equipment and flooring.

Sian’s mother Vena said the four-hour Airedale Centre session went amazingly well.

She said: “Sian choreographed many routines for the girls to display. They all had so much fun showcasing their new skills.

“The event was the conclusion of a three-day Cheer Camp held at Cougar Park. Each girl worked really hard to learn various routines to perform in the shopping centre.”

Team X-Treme was a Cougar Park Park on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm for over-fives, on Thursdays from 5pm to 5.45pm for ages two to five.

Parents of team extreme members are currently raising money to pay for pom pom’s and uniforms for the cheerleaders to use in events and competitions.

Several local businesses have donated vouchers for a raffle, including Cake Ole, Dragon’s Den, Bardot Hairdressers, Bardot Beautyroom and the Keighley market Beauty Station.

Sian has been cheerleading for about five years and became a leading member of the Bradford-based Panache Cheer School.

At the age of 14 she became one of nine Panache girls chosen to join the 30-strong Elite Cheer Team performing for qualifying matches with Rugby League World Cup.

Former Holy Family School student Sian travelled the UK with the Elite team for matches including England versus Australia in Cardiff.

Sian was chosen to travel in Florida with the Panache Elite team for the cheerleading world championships, and went to Disneyland Paris for her first special solo competition in the Future Cheer Brings It On contest.

The Panache Elite team had previously competed on Sky 1’s talent contest Got To Dance, where they achieved three gold stars from the judges.
