PUPILS from Oakbank School have taken part in the first stage of a survey to help define what is important about education.

The pupils attended the Educated Yorkshire conference at The David Hockney Building at Bradford College, at the request of Keighley-based social enterprise company Evolve.

They conducted a survey with delegates, asking a range of questions designed to help gain an understanding of what education professionals regard as the priorities for the UK’s education system.

The survey will be rolled out nationally over the next six months. Evolve, which provides health mentors to schools across England and Wales, plans to survey more than 1,000 school children on the same topic to ensure they get the best possible overview.

Company director Graham Morgan said: "We’re keen to get a much better understanding of what all stakeholders see as important in education.

"We know what the Department for Education believes, and as a company we are constantly talking to teachers, head teachers and parents to get their views.

"We intend to continue with that approach while at the same time surveying the opinions of the children themselves before comparing all the responses."

He added that early indications from the survey involving Oakbank's pupils show that "health and wellbeing" featured very high in terms of priority among those at the conference.
