RIDDLESDEN churches are praying for villagers – street by street.

Congregation members from St Mary's, Ilkley Road Methodists and the United Reformed Church are taking part.

Prayers have already been said for Barleycote and Rosewood Avenue, Church Court, West Bank Grove, Hazelwood Avenue, Slade Lane, Bank Top Drive, Daleside Road, Aire View and Compeigne Avenue.

And this month, the focus will be on Altar Villas, Bylands Avenue, Grange Grove, Leach Way, Howbeck Drive, Ripley Street, Southfield Drive and Westlea Avenue.

"The aim is to make us all more aware of the people who live around us," said Pat Fenton, of St Mary's Church.

"Whatever people's denomination or faith, we invite everyone to join us in our prayers, and if you have no faith please set aside a time to reflect on our village life.

"We are praying for the health and well-being of our residents, for their spiritual growth and understanding and for their commitment to our community.

"Already we have found that even long-term residents of Riddlesden are discovering streets they have never heard of!"
