RESCUERS went to the aid of an 80-year-old man who collapsed while walking in the Kildwick area.

The alarm was raised just after 10am on Monday and the walker was helped by paramedics and members of Grassington-based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.

A UWFRA spokesman said: "The team was called by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist in the recovery of an 80-year-old male who had over exerted himself while out walking and was reported as collapsed and unconscious. He was on a footpath about a mile north of Kildwick village.

"The air ambulance was also on scene but after a rest he was able to walk himself to the waiting ambulance."
