A HARDEN garden centre hosted a hugely successful annual show.

Woodbank was the venue for the well-attended event organised by the Bradford branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society.

Branch spokesman David Quail said it had been the best show for many years.

"We used to have it at Shipley Library up until its refurbishment but decided to try somewhere different and the garden centre was just perfect," he said.

"We were in a long greenhouse with vents the length of the roof, so if it got too hot they could simply be opened. And the staff themselves were magnificent and couldn’t have been more helpful."

Mr Quail said there were hundreds of prize specimens on show, viewed by garden centre shoppers and cacti experts alike.

"I personally entered 120 plants into the show!" he said.

Another attraction was a children's art show on the theme of cacti.
