A KEIGHLEY school has hosted the third annual Worth Valley Bake Off event.

The occasion was staged at St Joseph's Primary earlier this month (June) and led by Mike Armstrong, from Keighley's Sainsbury's Supermarket.

Pupils from St Joseph's, Our Lady of Victories and Haworth Primary schools took part.

The day started with Mr Armstrong demonstrating how to make scones.

Working in their school teams the children had to make two different batches of scones containing either cheese, cherry or fruit.

As an extra challenge they were given a bun recipe, access to ingredients and asked to make a batch of buns per team.

A St Joseph's Primary spokesman added: "Later the teams were given a brief talk about afternoon teas by Mike and asked to plan and make their own afternoon tea.

"They had to make different sandwiches using various ingredients. Each team made their own decisions about sandwiches and how to present their afternoon tea.

"The teams were allowed to bring a maximum of three items to help present their tea such as table cloths, cake stands and tea pots.

"Donna Cox from Boo Make 'n' Bake gave a short talk to the children about baking as a business, and showed them examples of the cakes she makes.

"Entries were judged by Donna and Mike and the winning team was from Haworth Primary."
