A CHARITABLE project founded in Keighley has given £300 worth of personalised presents to youngsters in hospital.

Project Ayaana ran an online social media initiative called #GiftASmile Campaign, which asked people to donate cash. This raised enough to buy gifts for children being cared for in Leeds General Infirmary.

The same campaign was also able to present the hospital ward's staff with flowers and chocolates, as well as provide vouchers for children to go on free outings to Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Theme Park.

Presents were handed over to the hospital on July 9, with help from Leeds-based boxer Adil Anwar and Sheffield-based Nasheed artist Ahmed Hussain.

Keighley resident and Project Ayaana leader, Faisal Tariq, said: "The whole point was to put a smile on the faces of these children.

"Eid is a special time for Muslims and we wanted to connect with the wider community and share our Eid experience with non-Muslim and Muslim children in the hospital."

Mr Tariq said Project Ayaana has now officially teamed up with InTouch Foundation, which runs a weekly evening food kitchen for deprived people in Keighley.
