A KEIGHLEY school's cookery club has rewarded the appreciation of its biggest fan by serving up a farewell buffet.

Raf Stabler, assistant head teacher at Holy Family Catholic School, is leaving to take up a new post at a secondary school in York. His last day at Holy Family is tomorrow. (July 22)

During his time at Holy Family he has regularly demonstrated his liking for the food produced by the school's cookery club.

A spokesman for the school said: "Mr Stabler has appointed himself Taster-in-Chief and somehow always manages to appear every week at exactly the right time to burn his mouth on that week’s delicacies!

"When the news broke that he would be leaving to become deputy head at a York school the members of the club secretly organised a farewell buffet for him, which they held at their usual club meeting."

Mr Stabler, who lives in Keighley and has been at Holy Family for eight years, said: "It was fantastic, but quite unexpected to come and find all this food laid out for me.

"It was a nice experience and the kids did fantastically well. There were sandwiches, cakes and some Indian cuisine.

"I had a little bit of everything, got myself well and truly stuffed and took some of the food home with me."

Before joining Holy Family Mr Stabler worked at Greenhead School for three years, where he was head of science.
