A VILLAGE scarecrow festival has been hailed a success – despite appalling weather.

A range of creations was on display around Farnhill and Kildwick over the weekend.

And the festival culminated with a family fun day.

The extravaganza raised £800 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

"The amount was slightly down on last year but considering the wind and rain we had to contend with at the weekend we were pleased with that," said David Townend, landlord at the White Lion, which hosted Sunday's fun day.

"The work that goes into creating some of the scarecrows is amazing.

"I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported the festival by kindly donating prizes, making or hunting for scarecrows and coming along to the fun day.

"The support is always fantastic."

The fun day included a prizegiving.

Best scarecrow as voted for by the judges was Mr McGregor and Peter Rabbit, while the public winner was Rio Olympics.
