HAWORTH'S biggest annual public celebration has announced its 2017 event will raise cash for a charity which inspires and helps injured military personnel.

The Haworth 1940s Weekend, which has so far raised nearly £100,000 for charity, will support Pilgrim Bandits at its next weekend on May 19, 20 and 21 2017.

Nikki Milner, event manager, said: “Pilgrim Bandits had a stand with us this year and we were amazed by the energy and drive they brought to the event.

"It wasn't a charity I knew of but after researching the work they do with our severely injured and veterans and how they work to inspire underprivileged young people it’s an ideal fit.

"Over recent years working with the Soldiers Sailors Airmen Families Association (SSAFA) – which will have a stand during next year’s event – has been wonderful, but the committee and I felt it was time to extend our support to an alternative military charity.”

Each year the 1940s Weekend has showcased a wartime theme.

During 2017 the theme will draw on the contribution made by the Special Forces, as 2016/17 coincides with the 75th anniversary of the formation of the first Special Forces.

Roberta Winterton, Pilgrim Bandits area manager for northern England, said: “This is an amazing chance for Pilgrim Bandits.

"We'll bring our entire charity community to make the most of the weekend both in terms of raising awareness and funds for the work we do.

"We can’t thank the committee and Nikki enough for such a wonderful opportunity."
