A VISUALLY-impaired Keighley man on a fundraising mission for Guide Dogs UK has received a boost from the Yorkshire Building Society (YBS).

Laurie Manley is aiming to raise £5,000 for the charity's Leeds mobility team, which trained his own dog Umber.

He has so far coined-in nearly £3,700 through various activities, including a gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks trek – with Umber – earlier this year.

Now the charitable foundation of the YBS has donated £500 to the cause.

Mr Manley is a customer at the society's Keighley branch.

"When he told us about his fundraising mission we were determined to do what we could to help," said Carol Hudson, a customer representative at the branch.

"The new puppy that the fundraising will support will be called Keighley in honour of our town."

Charlotte Walton, Guide Dogs community fundraiser for West Yorkshire, said the charity was delighted to have the support of the YBS.

"The £500 donation is a fantastic contribution to Mr Manley's fundraising campaign," she added.

"The support of local businesses is vital to the ongoing work of Guide Dogs, in training dogs which transform the lives of blind and partially-sighted people."

The YBS charitable foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme, in which members donate pennies from interest earned on their accounts.
