A KEIGHLEY special school is appealing for public support as it bids to win funding for outdoor play equipment.

Phoenix, at Braithwaite, is in the running for a £25,000 award from the Aviva Community Fund.

But the project needs votes from the public to be in with a chance of securing a grant.

The bid is being led by the Friends of Phoenix Special School, which says the cash would go towards an all-inclusive tower system.

"It is fully wheelchair accessible and has appropriately challenging equipment for the able bodied," said a spokesman.

"The most important aspect of the equipment is that all our pupils could use it, which means we can offer fully inclusive play to every child.

"We would use the tower during school time and out of hours and work with a wide range of community organisations and other schools to ensure it is utilised at events such as galas and open days.

"The more votes we get, the better our chance of winning."
