THE RENOWNED Boltmakers Arms in Keighley and the Golden Fleece in Oakworth are reopening with new landlords.

The Boltmakers, in East Parade, will reopen on Monday, December 12 following a £100,000-plus refit and the recent departure of award-winning landlord Phil Booth.

The Golden Fleece, in Colne Road, Oakworth, is celebrating its relaunch with a fundraiser for Manorlands on Saturday, December 10.

Long-time Oakworth residents Darren and Sue Robinson recently took over the Fleece after having an “amazing” three years running the Robin Hood in Silsden.

Sue said: “Having previously lived in Oakworth for 28 years, when the Golden Fleece became available we saw it as a chance to move back to the village and put some new life into what was once a great village pub.

“We want to promote a friendly atmosphere where anyone can call in, and there is always someone to chat to. Families and dogs are welcome and we have games to occupy the kids.

“We have lots of plans for the pub to get the village involved –, pub quiz, pool, darts and dominoes, open mic nights, live bands, games nights, theme weekends, groups and club nights.”

Sue said the Fleece would offer new lagers, ciders, a gin bar and cask ales, and will also have a new catering kitchen serving home-cooked food.

The Golden Fleece will host a Christmas market December 10 from 1pm with more than 15 local people and companies selling products.

Sue added: “It will be a fun day for all the family with raffles and prizes, rides on a pony and trap for the children, ferret racing.”

“Manorlands helped Sue’s dad and it would have been his birthday on December 10, so it’s quite poignant that we are trying to raise funds on that day.”

The Boltmakers Arms will open on December 12 at noon with new tenants Kathy and Craig Smith, who will run it a family business with daughter Laura.

They have been running the Goat’s Head in Steeton for the last three years, and will continue in that role.

The Boltmakers, in East Parade, has been shut for couple of weeks for a £100,000-plus refurbishment.

Jane Jenkins, head of marketing at Timothy Taylor’s, which owns the Boltmakers, said: “All the charm and character of the delightful pub will be retained.

“The special edition Fezziwig’s Porter that is exclusive to the Timothy Taylor’s pub estate for December will be on the bar.”
