A SERIAL supermarket shoplifter who breached a court order by stealing £68 of alcohol from Asda has been given a final chance to stay out of jail.
Paul Guy, 40, a recovering drug addict, was warned: "It's the end of the line," by Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC.
Guy, of Styveton Way, Steeton, had 17 convictions for 28 offences, mostly thefts, Bradford Crown Court heard.
He was the subject of a two-year suspended sentence order for possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
The court heard that the Asda theft, on September 27, was the only offence committed by Guy since he was given a deferred sentence in August for shoplifting.
His barrister, Abigal Langford, said Guy was engaging well with the probation service, which was anxious to continue working with him.
Judge Durham Hall said Guy was "in the grip of a pernicious and life-altering" drug addiction.
He sentenced him to a two-year community order with a 50-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a four-month curfew order. The suspended sentence stays in place until the summer of 2018.
