KEIGHLEY householders are being urged to be extra security-conscious in the run-up to Christmas.
The message was issued this week by the Master Locksmith Association, which says burglaries traditionally peak at this time of year.
"The run-up to Christmas should be a time of excitement but we often see homes targeted by thieves who hope to make off with some early presents of their own," said Dr Steffan George, for the association.
"By taking a few simple precautions, homeowners can do a lot to deter potential thieves.
"Keep presents out of sight, make sure you double-check windows and doors are locked and don't advertise your festive plans on social media."
Other advice includes using timers to switch on lights if the house is empty as it gets dark.
