CIVIC tribute has been paid to the district's posties at their busiest time of the year.

Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid, thanked workers during a visit to a Royal Mail delivery office.

He was shown how staff process the mountains of festive post and met some of the postmen and women who distribute the mail across the district.

"People have always seen the delivery workers on the streets as a very important part of the Christmas season and look forward to the sound of deliveries coming through the letterbox," said Cllr Reid.

"It is important also to remember staff in sorting offices, whose contribution is vital to the efficient handling of seasonal mail."

The last recommended posting dates for Christmas are December 20 for second-class mail, the following day for first class and December 22 for special delivery.
