MEMBERS of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council have agreed a budget for 2017/18.

Councillors voted to increase the precept by 1.04 per cent.

The latest budget will raise a total of £44,941, which amounts to £20.23 request on homes in the benchmark band D category.

Parish council chairman Cllr Gary Swallow explained that the amount of money allocated for the participatory budget fund would be increased from £20,000 to £22,000.

He added that cash for the council's environment committee would rise from £1,840 to £5,000.

Cllr Peter Clarke spoke in favour of taking more money from the precept rather than from reserves to ensure the council remains on a secure financial footing in future.

But Cllr Angel Kershaw and other councillors successfully argued that the council should not be looking to implement major precept rises at this stage.

She warned a substantial precept increase now meant it would be difficult for the parish council to generate extra cash later when it needs to plug the gaps left by Bradford Council's spending cuts.
