A PLAN for "emergency works" to fix a failed central heating system in Keighley Civic Centre is on the agenda for this Thursday's meeting of Keighley Town Council. (Jan 26)

Councillors will consider a recommendation to ask a company to provide a second quote for the cost of a full refit of the system.

The quotes will be submitted to a future full council meeting for members to decide which option to implement.

A briefing note included in the agenda for Thursday's meeting explains: "Boiler one is now permanently out of service and cannot be used for safety reasons.

"Space Heating at the civic centre is now being provided by boiler two – previously out of service – which is part functioning but requires further repairs.

"Continued operation of boiler two is compromised by the age and condition of the equipment.

"Water heating is provided by a separate water heater, which is functioning.

"Additional works are required to the control system and the pumps in order to ensure their continued and safe operation.

"It is likely that one pump has failed and others may be in need of replacement.

"The control system is not fully working correctly, is dependent on parts and may cease to function at any time."
