A WOMAN who suffered the double devastation of a stillbirth and miscarriage within just six months is organising a fundraising ball to help the charity which supported her.

Grace Detoeuf and husband Anthony received the tragic news in October 2015 that their unborn baby had died and son Louis was born sleeping, at Airedale Hospital.

Months later the couple were expecting again and early scans were positive, but at nine weeks another scan found there was no heartbeat.

Mrs Detoeuf said they had received incredible help from a charity, Aidan's Elephants, which they wanted to thank.

"I was 35 weeks' pregnant when we lost our beautiful baby boy," she said.

"In an instant, our whole world fell apart.

"Aidan's Elephants was there to support us.

"It provides memory boxes for bereaved parents at Airedale Hospital, helps equip a special room so parents can spend time with their babies and assists with the funding of bereavement training for staff.

"The charity helped me so much through my loss and I want to help it in its work and help other parents who suffer the same tragedy as us."

The ball is being held at the Coniston Hotel, Coniston Cold, on Saturday, February 4.

A highlight of the event will be an auction featuring an array of lots, including a VIP trip to Disney on Ice for up to 14 people, a signed Brazilian football shirt and a rare 16-year-old bottle of whiskey with a Special Boat Service logo.

There will also be a raffle.

"We have had so much support for the ball through various businesses and sponsors – for which I am extremely grateful – and hope to raise a significant amount for the charity to enable it to continue its amazing work," said Mrs Detoeuf.

As well as providing memory boxes, Aidan's Elephants continues to give support via its website – aidanselephants.co.uk – to bereaved parents and their families after they leave the hospital.

It offers a range of resources and information, people can add their baby's name to a memorial board and join a Facebook community.

Mrs Detoeuf is also involved in a Keighley-based support group for bereaved parents.

She helped set-up the Sunbeam Support Group, which meets at Strong Close Nursery School in Airedale Road on the last Thursday of every month, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
