FURY has erupted after a documentary containing horrifically graphic scenes was shown to young Keighley schoolchildren.

The point-blank shooting in the head of a prisoner – and a decapitated corpse lying in the street – are among sickening images viewed by the youngsters.

Enraged Bracken Bank mum Laura Ingham said her 12-year-old daughter was among the class of year-eight Beckfoot Oakbank children shown the film, about Pakistani girls education campaigner Malala Yousafzai.

Footage also shows the blood-soaked body of an apparently dead man, another corpse slumped by a roadside and a man being flogged by militants.

The gruesome execution scene – halfway through the 32-minute documentary – shows a blindfolded prisoner being shot in the head by a masked, assault-rifle-wielding gunman.

Mum-of-two Miss Ingham, 31, said the documentary had been shown to Beckfoot Oakbank children by a supply teacher during an English lesson.

This week the school said it "regretted" students had viewed the images and added that action had been taken to ensure it didn't happen again.

Miss Ingham said: "I send my children to school expecting them to be safe.

"I wouldn't let them watch anything like that in front of me, so for them to be shown it at school is ridiculous.

"My daughter told me they'd had to watch this awful video with people being shot and beheaded in it.

"She said some children had told the teacher at the time, 'we don't want to see this', but he replied they could look at the wall instead.

"It's just unbelievable and I think people need to be aware of it."

Beckfoot Oakbank's deputy head, Sarah Phillips, said the incident had been investigated and dealt with as part of "internal processes".

She added: "A member of staff is no longer with us.

"Although the topic is relevant and important for young people to be aware of, we regret that the students viewed such images.

"We take our responsibility to safeguard our students very seriously and have updated a number of procedures within school to ensure that such a situation is not repeated."

Miss Ingham's father, Keith, 57, who lives off Fell Lane, said: "I feel very strongly that Beckfoot Oakbank is responsible for what supply teachers make their students watch during school time.

"The school is refusing to give my granddaughter's parents the opportunity to speak to the agency about this supply teacher.

"Why that teacher felt it necessary to show a beheaded body and another person shot through the head is beyond me.

"He should never be allowed to set foot in a classroom ever again.

"Even in a multiracial community such as our own, there are limits to what should be shown to children.

"We can't let our children go out into the world with blinkers on their eyes but there was no need for the supply teacher to show them that.

"Within the first couple of minutes it should have been obvious what kind of thing was in the programme.

"The teacher even said that if the children did not like what they were seeing they should look away!

"Teachers have a duty to be responsible, and this didn't happen at Beckfoot Oakbank.

"Personally I believe the school needs to apologise to parents and apologise to the children who were made to watch this."
