MUSIC fans are being invited to enjoy a bit of comedy on the side.

The Sideman, alias Guy Pratt, will generate laughter in Bingley as he recalls 30 years as a bass player to the stars.

At the Arts Centre on April 23 he will relate anecdotes from three decades in the record business and play music on his beloved vintage Fender bass guitar.

Guy Pratt was born in London, the son of songwriter/actor Mike Pratt, best known for writing Tommy Steele’s children’s classic The Little White Bull and playing Jeff Randall in Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased).

At the age of 19 Guy joined top band Icehouse for a world tour. In 1983 he supported David Bowie on his legendary Serious Moonlight tour.

This led to Guy playing bass for the likes of Robert Palmer, Bryan Ferry, Womack & Womack and The Smiths, and touring the world with Pink Floyd.

Moving to Los Angeles, he added Madonna and Michael Jackson to his list of top drawer clients.

Guy can also be heard on many hit records for the likes of Tom Jones, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders, Ronan Keating, Echo & the Bunnymen, All Saints and Elton John.

He has also tried his hand at writing and producing, notching up hits with artists including Robert Palmer, The Orb, Fat Les, Jimmy Nail, Marianne Faithful and Debbie Harry.

Guy has won a Grammy and been nominated for two Ivor Novello Awards, and composed music for many films, TV shows and theatre productions.

In 2005 Guy turned to comedy, taking his one-man show My Bass And Other Animals to the Edinburgh Fringe and two years later turning it into a book.

He toured the show successfully over the next few years while continuing to record and tour with David Gilmour, Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry.
