POLICE have charged another eight men with drugs dealing offences following a new operation in Keighley.

A total of 13 men were arrested and officers say they have seized "a significant" amount of Class A and B drugs, as well as around £10,000 worth of cash.

Those charged have been bailed to appear before Bradford Magistrates this week.

These latest arrests follow a January police operation in which 13 men were charged with supplying drugs in Keighley.

Some of these cases are still going through the courts, but police say that so far sentences totalling more than 45 years have been given out to those who have been convicted.

Inspector Khalid Khan, who leads the Keighley Area Neighbourhood Team, said: "I hope this ongoing work shows the people of Keighley that we are continuing to listen to their concerns regarding the supply of illegal drugs and are taking positive action.

"This operation was again made possible with the assistance of local people, and I hope it reinforces the message that drug dealing will not be tolerated in this town."

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "This is another great outcome for our communities in Keighley, and again demonstrates the dedicated work of Inspector Khan and West Yorkshire Police.

"Illegal drugs ruin lives and tackling their abuse is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan. We will not allow drug dealers to ply their trade in West Yorkshire, it will never be an alternative to making an honest living here and the sentences being received by those convicted will serve as a reminder of that.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate our thanks to members of the public for their help in tackling these issues."
