KEIGHLEY Blues Live are playing host to men from down under.

Highly-regarded Australian guitarist Geoff Achison and his band pledge a show rich in blues history on Sunday April 9.

They also promise music that is irresistibly danceable with heartfelt soul and contemporary funky grooves.

Intrinsic to the show is Geoff’s band The Souldiggers whose line-up includes renowned keyboard player Paul Jobson and internationally-acclaimed drummer Sam Kelly.

A club spokesman said: “Following relentless tours of the USA and Europe from 2007 to 2012 Geoff needed a break so returned home to Melbourne.

“Now, four years on, re-energised and rejuvenated, Geoff’s back in the UK and Europe prior to a tour of the US.”

At the end of that long-lasting tour, Geoff was named as one of the Top 50 Australian Guitarists in Australian Guitar magazine.

The spokesman added: “A jaw-dropping, crowd-pleasing guitar virtuoso with a rich vocal style, this self-taught musician has created his own sound winning a swag of awards along the way – and not an effects pedal in sight!”

The gig, which features Mark Harrison playing support, is described as perfect music for a Sunday evening.

Mark writes and performs exclusively his own material, songs for the present that tip their hat to the past, taking as their starting point the pre-war acoustic blues greats.

Some of the “wholly individual” songs are firmly rooted in the present and some imagine the past.

Accompanying himself on a 1934 National Trojan guitar, acoustic 12-string and 6-string guitars, Mark’s material that incorporates elements of blues and folk without being entirely either of them.

Keighley Blues Live will host Devon Allman on May 5, with guests the Richard Kitson Trio.
