TWO Keighley blood donors have been rewarded for their efforts.

Robin Nolan and David Shailer received medals and certificates from NHS Blood and Transplant after each giving their 100th donation.

The duo was among nearly 30 donors from across the region recognised in a ceremony at Hazlewood Castle, Leeds.

Mr Nolan, 67, who began giving blood more than four decades ago, urges others to also donate.

"It's painless and saves lives," he said.

Mr Shailer, 75, a retired teacher, has given most of his blood donations in London but has continued since recently moving to Steeton.

"Giving blood is a practical way of providing help to others in urgent need," he said.

"The donation sessions are friendly and well managed."

Amanda Eccles, senior marketing co-ordinator at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "These dedicated donors are very special to us and the ceremony gives us the opportunity to say thank you.

"Between them, they have saved thousands of lives and improved the lives of countless others who have required blood transfusions."
