AN APPEAL has been lodged after planners rejected a company's plea to retain its Keighley town-centre shopfront.
Eggfree Cake Box had applied to Bradford Council for the retention of the shopfront, a retractable canopy and roller shutter at 10 High Street.
But the bid was thrown out.
Now applicant Christopher Suddaby has formally appealed against the decision – and the rejection of a retrospective application for a shop fascia sign.
Both appeals are being dealt with through written representations.
A council spokesman said: "The installed shopfront in terms of its design and appearance has a visual impact that results in significant harm to Keighley Town Centre Conservation Area, with no mitigating public benefit."
Planners also claimed there was inadequate inclusive access to the premises and that the security shutter produced "an unwelcoming street environment" for pedestrians.
Eggfree Cake Box began with one store in 2008 but expects to have 50 outlets by the end of this year.
