A KEIGHLEY school pupil has achieved success in rugby at the end of what is only his third season of playing this sport.

Connor Gill, from Stockbridge, who is in year seven at Holy Family Catholic School, plays for the under 12 section of Bingley Bees Club as a centre and winger.

Earlier this month (May) he was awarded the trophy for the most improved Under-12 player in the season.

A Holy Family spokesman has congratulated Connor on his achievement.

His mother, Trish Gill, said she and her husband Andy were able to see 12-year-old Connor receive his trophy at an end of season presentation event in Bingley.

"The whole family is really proud of him," she added. "He always puts his all into every game and training session."

She said Connor was chosen for the trophy by his coach from a 15-strong squad.

She said that as well as rugby, Connor plays football for Holy Family School and has recently begun playing cricket for Oxenhope Cricket Club.

He is a member of the Keighley branch of the Sea Cadets, where he also enjoys rowing and kayaking.
