A VALUED Silsden amenity which was saved by a major voluntary effort to stop it closing for good will soon be back in action.

Thanks to the help of dozens of volunteers Silsden Library, now to be known as Silsden Community Library, will be opening its doors in the town hall for the first time in just over two months, on Monday June 5 at 10am.

The opening hours will be similar to those when it was run by Bradford Council, though it will now open until 6pm on Tuesdays while closing at 1pm on Saturdays.

The re-launched library will be hosting an official opening on the morning of Saturday June 24, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, free gifts for children and refreshments.

Peter Cannon, chairman of the library steering group, praised the commitment of his fellow group members and the volunteers who had come forward to staff the library.

“Due to everyone’s hard work we have managed to get everybody trained, the rotas organised and even the library re-painted in record time," he said.

"We hope that the community will enjoy having their facility back again and look forward to meeting customers old and new.

"For up to date details of our opening times people can visit our Facebook Page @SilsdenCommunityLibrary or our webpage at silsdentownhall.org.uk

“We would also like to thank Silsden Town Council, Skipton Building Society and Bradford Council’s Keighley Area Committee for their generous donations."

Bradford Council ended its staffing of the Silsden Town Hall based library at the beginning of April, as part of its latest cutbacks to try and save money.
