A KEIGHLEY-district primary school has won recognition for its commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning.

Riddlesden St Mary's has been awarded the coveted Primary Science Quality Mark.

The Grange Road site is among 168 infant, junior, primary, middle and special schools in the latest cohort of recipients.

Since the scheme was launched nationally in 2010, more than 2,300 schools across the UK have achieved the award.

A spokesman for Riddlesden St Mary's Primary School said: "The scheme enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development, led by local experts.

"It encourages teacher autonomy and innovation while at the same time offering a clear framework for development in science subject leadership, teaching and learning.

"We are very proud of the hard work all our staff and pupils have put in to help us achieve this."
