CHILDREN at a Keighley school have paid their own moving tribute to the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack.

The youngsters at St Andrew's CE Primary and Nursery have written heartfelt prayers and messages of love, compassion and hope.

Staff, parents and governors also took part.

They prayed together and observed a minute's silence, led by parent governor Amjid Ahmed.

And a group of pupils visited Keighley Shared Church to read out prayers and messages of hope at a service for shoppers.

Deputy headteacher, Rachel Whitham, said: "It was very important for us to allow the children the opportunity to discuss their feelings about the tragic events and to unite in love and hope for the future.

"There has been a great response from parents, staff and governors and we are all extremely proud of the compassion and other values the children have shown through their words and actions."

Some of the children's prayers and messages have been written in the Manchester book of condolence and are displayed on the school's website.

Messages include one from Imaan Hanif, of 4R, who says: "Dear people of Manchester. Those we love will never go away and we know they'll never be replaced.

"Although this awful tragedy has happened, we still have to be brave and strong.

"I know how you feel and your beloved ones will always be with you.

"May God give you strength at this difficult time and I hope your loved ones are blessed with Heaven."

Malaika Imran, of year one, writes: "We should show compassion and we should show humility. We should try not to hurt people. We should pray for the people who went to the concert in Manchester and died or got injured. We should be kind to everyone."

And year-five pupil Hasanin Khan says: "Dear God, may you bless the people that helped others in the time of need and help them in their future. Also may you receive those that died in Heaven."
