A SECOND clean-up is planned at Haworth churchyard.

Volunteers are being sought to take part in the event, from 10am to 12.30pm on Monday, June 12.

The initial clean-up, in March, attracted about 20 helpers who removed leaf litter from gravestones, cut back vegetation and gathered fallen branches.

This time it is hoped to reveal gravestones hidden by debris for decades.

Bradford Council ward officer, Liz Parker, said: "We will be carefully digging down through years of leaf litter to find graves which local historians know are there, but are not visible at present.

"Volunteers will be provided with gloves and tools, but anyone attending is also invited to bring a plastic snow shovel – as they do not damage the gravestones when scraping off leaves – and also woven garden waste bags."
