VIBRANT colours of yesteryear were in evidence in Bronteland over the weekend as Haworth pulled out all the stops for a spectacular 2017 1960s weekend.

Soul, Tamla Motown, brightly coloured outfits, floppy hats and flower power provided the wall-to-wall 60s feel as classic cars rolled into town and Mods with their Vespas and Lambretta scooters showed off their gleaming chrome work in Main Street.

Music to entertain visitors included the Soul in Haworth group who were playing at the Black Bull in Main Street and the Old Hall, in Sun Street.

There was also a special night at the Parkside Club, in Butt Lane, late into Saturday evening.

Live music was played throughout the village including performances from The Sheratons, The Rocking Beats, Silly Billies, Joe Gallagher duo, Last Orders, Eclectic Wizards, The Chessmen, Rebecca Lindley and – fittingly for National Beatles Day – The Pretend Beatles tribute band.

There was also a display by Haworth’s Shine Academy dance group.

Thousands of visitors flocked to the historic village and were blessed with fine weather for much of the weekend. The sun shone as the popular festivities drew to a close yesterday afternoon. (June 25)

Visitors and locals, many of whom turned up in eye-catching 1960s dress, enjoyed the attractions and stalls provided food and refreshments.

As in previous years most of the fun was centred on Haworth Central Park and Main Street.

There was also a bar laid on by Bridgehouse Brewery which runs Haworth's King's Arms Pub, as well as children’s rides and a stall selling model cars of the era.

Others stands were selling 60s-style handbags, accessories and other memorabilia.

Organisers had said the event last year was a huge success and were crossing their fingers for a similar turnout of support.

Stephen Hogg, the spokesman for the event’s organisers, said: “The committee members work hard organising the event for several months. I would like to thank them for their efforts and also everyone who took park in the weekend.

“We had around 7,000 people turn up over the two days and the weather was on our side too.

“The atmosphere was just awesome with people dancing around to the music, and it really made us feel like we were back in the 1960s!

"John McKeegan, who is a member of our 1960s Weekend organising committee, arranged the scooters for the display and ride down Main Street on both days."
