The Great Get Together brought together more than 300 people in Oakworth.

The event, organised by Oakworth Community Trust with the village Scout group, was held in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Visitors to the village school playing fields had a chance to play, climb trees or run around the field playing tig.

Face painting and balloon tying were also popular, and 250 burgers were given away. Donations will go towards the Oakworth defibrillator fund.

Robert Payne, a local scout leader and chairman of Oakworth Community Trust , said the event was just what Jo Cox would have wanted.

He said: “It was great to see so many smiling faces from local children and so many adults from the village talking with new and old friends.

“Before the event had even finished we were being when the next community event would be be. The trust is evaluating the feedback so we can make plans for the next Great Get Together."

Oakworth Community Trust and Oakworth Scout group issued thanks to Bradford Council and Keighley Town Council for their financial contributions to the event, and Oakworth Co-op for donating refreshments.

Mr Payne added: “A big thank you to The Great Get-Together for reminding us that we have more in common than that which divides us. It has been an inspirational idea that has united many people throughout the country.”
