LOCAL people can wax lyrical about the transformation of a public toilet into a corner shop.
The team behind the East Morton Community Shop has launched a poetry competition to raise awareness of the project.
The volunteers want to involve the whole community in the development of the building opposite Morton Institute.
Poems must have the words ‘Village Shop’ in the title and should be written or printed on one side of A4 paper.
Entries are invited in three age groups –10 years and under, 11 to 16 years, and ‘grown-ups’. Winning entries will be published in the Keighley News.
Volunteer Celia Duxbury said: “Building work is progressing well on the shop premises, though we need to raise further funds to fit out the inside of the shop.
“We want people to bring their poetry entries to the shop premises during Morton Gala on July 9. There will be a small entry fee of £1 for each poem submitted.
“This will also be an opportunity for residents and visitors to speak to volunteers for an update on progress.”
