KEIGHLEY councillor Abid Hussain was among speakers during Armed Forces Day celebrations in Bradford city centre.

Cllr Hussain, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, joined council and church dignitaries, military personnel and veterans for the annual event.

Standards of the various ex-service associations paraded into Centenary Square for the start of the drumhead service which was watched by around 400 people.

This was followed by a parade led by the 1224 Wharfedale Squadron Cadet Band and the Royal Armoured Corps band which was formed three years ago.

Cllr Hussain said: “I am honoured and delighted to be part of this drumhead service. It is so good to see so many of you here.

“I am always heartened by Bradford people coming together to support these events. I personally feel that it is so important that we continue to remember all our men and women in the armed forces both past and present.”

Bradford Cathedral’s Reverend Canon Paul Maybury led the service attended by Bradford Sea Cadets chaplain John Howard.
