A GROUP working to keep Oakworth's threatened Holden Hall open will this week have its £5,180 funding bid to Keighley Town Council considered by councillors.
A Finance and Audit Committee recommendation that the town council should award this cash to Oakworth Community Trust will be discussed in Keighley Town Hall on Thursday. (June 29)
The proposal is being put forward by Councillor Mohammed Nazam and seconded by Cllr Barry Thorne.
They also request that if Holden Hall's ownership is successfully transferred from Bradford Council to the community trust, a report on this should be provided to Keighley Town Council.
Holden Hall was among seven buildings district-wide that Bradford Council wanted community groups to take on in order to save the district council money.
City Hall bosses warned that if no-one stepped forward, the facilities would have to shut.
Oakworth Community Trust has drawn up a detailed business plan for the hall and has submitted an application to Bradford Council for an asset transfer of the building.
The application is now being considered by the district council.
Trust secretary Martin van der Boon said the trust is also fundraising by applying for grants and intends to set up an Oakworth residents' lottery.
The group hopes to be able to modernise Holden Hall by equipping it with a bar area and extra storage.
But it needs money to pay for work such as a building survey and architects plans.
