KEIGHLEY Town Council will host a day of family fun to celebrate Yorkshire Day on Tuesday August 1.

The Keighley town mayor, Councillor Mohammed Nazam, will open the event at Church Green at 10am with a ribbon cutting. Residents and visitors alike are welcome to attend and to have their photographs taken with the mayor.

The fun will continue until 4pm, with free entry and free amusements all day.

Chairman of Keighley Town Council’s Events and Leisure Committee, Councillor Luke Maunsell, said: “We look forward to celebrating our county and our town on the first day of August.

"Everyone will be welcome to attend and join in, and early birds may even receive a white rose for their lapels!”

Two face painters will be on-hand to transform younger visitors into a look of their choice.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to get up close and personal with the ferrets of the Worth Valley Ferret Welfare charity. Sticking with the Yorkshire theme, locally-made Yorkshire flat caps will also be sold.

Other attractions will include a bouncy castle, balloon modellers and ice cream van.

Anyone wearing or bringing a flat cap to the event is invited to decorate it, either in advance or on the day. People with the best decorated caps will receive prizes.
