A KEIGHLEY based charity initiative's lightning fast fundraising effort has helped youngsters in Sheffield who face the daunting prospect of a hospital operation.

Project Ayaana, which is part of the Intouch Foundation charity, put out an appeal for donations to fund an additional iPad for Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

The Eid al-Adha appeal generated £306 in only a couple of hours.

Keighley resident Faisal Tariq, the leader of Project Ayaana, explained: "It was part of our annual Gift a Smile campaign.

"This year we linked up with Sheffield-based Nasheed artist Ahmad Hussain who wanted to do something for children in Sheffield.

"I contacted the children's hospital there and asked them what they needed. They said they could do with another iPad for their theatre ward, to serve as a distraction for children facing or recovering from operations.

"We raised the necessary funds within a couple or hours putting the appeal out via texts and social media.

"It was brilliant, a really fast turnaround. This wasn't for children in West Yorkshire but because it's Eid and for such a good cause people were more than happy to support us."
