A FOOTBALL tournament organised by a Keighley teenager raised hundreds of pounds to help orphaned children in Kashmir.

Yesterday's (August 20) event at Marley was arranged by Faizaan Ghani, 17, of Laurel Grove.

Eight teams, including seven from Keighley and one from Oldham, took part in the seven-a-side contest which ran from 11am till 5pm and also included refreshments.

The final was contested by the home sides Notorious and A650, with Notorious emerging victors by one goal to nil.

Mr Ghani said more than £700 was raised for Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust, which is based in the city of Mirpur, and runs a home, school and mosque for orphans.

He said: "The tournament went brilliantly. It's the first time I've done something like this, so I wasn't sure how it would go, but in terms of spectators we had quite a big turnout."

The occasion was sponsored by local businesses Keighley Glazing and Play FX, with further support coming from Shazad Aziz of Star Sports and Lance Depass who refereed the matches.

Mr Ghani, who is a pupil at University Academy Keighley, also thanked helpers Nadeem Malik and Ibraheem Mohammed. He said Bradford Lord Mayor Councillor Abid Hussain and Keighley MP John Grogan attended the tournament.
