A GROUP of South Craven School pupils completed a demanding but enjoyable two-day expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
They began at Rosedale, in the North York Moors, camping overnight in Rosedale Abbey.
The second day of their trek took them over Spaunton Grouse Moor, towards the villages of Lastingham and the tourist hot spot of Hutton le Hole.
A total of 16 year 10 and 11 students took part.
Mark Bonner, who runs the Duke of Edinburgh scheme at South Craven, said: "The students covered about 20 miles, carrying everything they needed as they had to be totally self sufficient.
"They socialised with another group from Oakham School, in Rutland, who were also on an expedition.
"DofE at South Craven is open to all students from age 14 and older, and is a flexible programme that helps to develop young people for life and work.
"The numbers speak for themselves – 93 per cent of participants feel that DofE has helped them to work in a team, and 84 per cent feel they have become a more responsible person.
"When they'd finished their own expedition our students were tired but really pleased to have completed this challenging section of their award."
