PEOPLE in Keighley willing to volunteer their time for a good cause have been urged to come forward in time for this December.

Marie Curie has made an early appeal for help with festive fundraising in Keighley and Bradford.

It is working to generate cash for its Bradford Hospice, which looks after patients living with terminal illnesses. Nurses for the charity also care for patients in their own homes.

Two of the Christmas collections take place in Keighley, with one of these due to happen in the town centre on Saturday December 2.

There will also be a collection for Marie Curie at the Keighley branch of Morrisons on Thursday December 14.

Community fundraiser Aanika Dhillon said: "These collections are such an important way for us to raise the funds our nurses need to be there for all the people who will need specialist palliative care in their own homes.

"Twenty pounds is enough for a full hour of nursing care and typically at a collection someone can help us raise three or four times this in two hours of volunteering."

A collection shift is two hours, beginning at 9am and running throughout the day until early evening.

People can sign up online for their preferred shift at mariecurie.org.uk/get-involved/collecting or contact 01274 386 190 for more details.
